Flare weapons are a distinct armament class in IIslands of War.

Technically a projectile weapon, flares are distinct in that they are primarily a defensive tool: Flares do little damage to enemy blocks, but they are very effective at destroying enemy projectiles. They can also be used to quickly get rid of enemy shields and make enemy Islands more vulnerable.
As of test version 8.??, flares became explosive.
